Back in Lubbock.

Well, i'm back in Lubbock! It was kinda bittersweet to be back. I miss home, but I miss my AIM family too!

I had a great week at home! Surprising people was awesome! Then I went to Highway for church on Sunday and got to see A LOT of people! That was so awesome! I miss them all so much! Most of the week I just spent visiting people. On Monday we dropped Beatriz off in Paragould to spend the week with her ex-AIMer friend. Then I went around visiting all the people I know there with my cousin, Laura, and Bianca. That was awesome!
I went to see "Breaking Dawn" with Patty and Cindy and Bianca! That was fun! I babysat Greg and Patty's kids one day for a couple hours. Bianca and I ate Lunch with Greg one day. I went to Curtis Kindergarten for a little while one day to visit. I spent time at home with my family! I went out to dinner with Chelsea and Sheryll! It was a pretty chill week. We went hunting on the Friday after Thanksgiving! That was awesome!

Thanksgiving day was wonderful too! I got up and got ready. Everybody was running around cooking up a storm. We had lunch at 12ish. I think there ended up being 28 or so people there! It was crazy! But, I got to see a lot of people and some family that I only get to see a couple times a year! Lots of fun!
That's pretty much it. It was so nice to be home and see everyone. The 12 hour drive there and back was definitely worth it!
On the way back Katherine met up with us and drove back with us. We got caught in traffic twice for wrecks. The second time was really bad. It ended up making us late for curfew, but it was a legit reason so we were excused. We ended up finding another way around it or it would have been lots later. Say a little prayer for the people involved in both of the wrecks please!

Anyways, we are just getting ready to finish up this term. It's about 2 1/2 weeks. We also find out our teams and fields in the next couple weeks. It's exciting!

Thank you for all of your support! Love you all!

Home Again!

Well, hello everyone!

I am writing from SEARCY, ARKANSAS!!!!!!! It's so good to be here.

We had mid-terms this last week. It was a pretty crazy, hectic week. We were all getting ready to go home for Thanksgiving break and take mid-terms and things of the sort.

We had 3 mid-terms. They all went pretty well for me! I was so excited to go home all week that I had a hard time focusing, but I got it all done.

I am home now and I am so happy to be here. Bianca, Beatriz and I drove about 12 hours yesterday to get here. We got home about 10 last night. My dad knew I was coming, just in case we had any problems. But I surprised my mom. She said "what are you doing here, my house isn't even clean yet!" lol she's crazy! Kate and Jacob came over and saw me! Tara came home and I surprised her.

Then today I went around surprising a bunch of other people. I have lots of plans this week already. Just hanging out with people. Lots of people want to hear how it's all going in Lubbock at AIM. I am excited to tell everyone about it! On Monday we are taking Beatriz to Paragould. She is going to spend the week with one of her friends there. Bianca will stay here with my family all week. I am so excited!

Anyways, I will probably write again after I get back to Lubbock to tell you about my week here at home.

Thank you all for your support and prayers! I appreciate it so much.
Have a SUPER HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Catching up!

Well, it's been way too long!
I'm so sorry that I haven't been keeping up with this. It's been so crazy insane here!!

October was absolutely crazy busy! We had 2 trips only a few days apart. Well, we ended our first term on October 6th. It's crazy that we are already in our second term! Whoa! Well, then we went to Paducah, Kentucky. We left and spent a night in Springfield, MO. We ate dinner at Lambert's Cafe! We made it to Paducah the next night. It was a wonderful week! We had a couple classes. We did a few service projects. We had a fashion show. We helped with their annual community fish-fry. We did a flag presentation and had lots of fun! I was in a group of 5 girls that stayed at Carlin and Barbara Cook's house! It was so great! They are wonderful people! We got to know them pretty well. I set the fire alarm off 5 times I think. It was interesting. Carlin has a 1958 Ford Fairlane that he took us for rides in. All in all it was such a wonderful trip to get to serve people, spend time with people and have lots of fun!
On the way home from Paducah we stopped in Sheridan, AR for a night. My mom and my sisters came to see me while we were there! It was SOOO good to see them!

When we returned to Lubbock after our trip we started our second term. We only had classes for two days and then we left for the Global Missions Conference in Fort Worth, TX. It was also a wonderful trip! We got to attend some really great classes. We heard quite a few keynote speakers. We sang and had a huge flag presentation. I got to see Benny and Donna! I also got to see Ashli and Mark who I interned in Nicaragua with 2 summers ago. Mark brought Joshua, his little brother, who I got to meet this past summer while I was in Nicaragua! It was sooooooo great to see them all and catch up a little bit! Well, the whole conference went really well. Bianca and I stayed at a house together! The family has a daughter who went through AIM and is now married and her husband is the preacher at one of our area churches. So that was fun! That's about all that happened there.

We came back from GMC and got right into the second terms classes! We have great classes this term! We have a Romans class. We have an Acts class. We have a Spiritual Disciplines class and a NT Church class. So far they are wonderful!

We had trunk-or-treat in Denver City this past weekend and that was so fun! We dressed up like crayons! I think we were pretty stinkin' cute! Then we spent the night there and went to church Sunday. We had a pretty crazy Sunday. Church, Potluck, Homework Time. Well, then after that we were just waiting to go to a party. Well, on our way to the party in the people's driveway....they have long dirt road driveway and there is a pretty sharp turn at one point, well one of our girls cars flipped off of the road. There were 3 girls in the car, but they were all ok. It was pretty scary though. So we didn't stay at the party very long at all. We were all just tired and in shock so we went home. They had to bring her car back to Lubbock the next day. We just thank God that no one got hurt!

Tonight we actually filled out our lists. It's so crazy how it's already time for this. We all got together at the Powerhouse at Sunset and we sang and prayed and talked. We then filled out our top 5 girls, top 5 guys, top 5 fields and our bottom people and fields. A lot of people were worried, but I feel pretty good about it. I just want God to do what He has planned. I am excited! It's going to be super great!

Well, that's just the main things that have been happening. We are all excited that thanksgiving break is coming up! It's going to be a nice refreshing break from all of the crazy wonderful busy life of AIM! I am so excited to go visit home for a little bit! Then we come back for a couple weeks and right before we go home for Christmas break we find out our teams and fields!

Alright, well...sorry it's been so long. I hope you all have a blessed weekend!

It's Been A While!

Hello Everyone!!!

First of all! I'm so sorry it has been so long! It's been pretty crazy busy here.

Well, this first term is almost over! It's amazing and crazy all at the same time! It's been such a roller-coaster ride! I don't even know the exact words to describe it all. Wonderful. Crazy. Amazing. Informational. Emotional. Scary. And so many other things...

We have final exams next week and  then we leave for a trip to Paducah, Kentucky next Thursday. It's all going very quickly! We have a lot of homework right now so that's always wonderful!

I have been getting to know my classmates better and better each day! I feel like I've know some of them forever! It's amazing! I know some of these friendships will last a lifetime! I love it!

Well, I have to get some work done! Sorry this ones short! I will probably write after finals or Paducah!

Have a wonderful blessed week!

Mountain View!

Hello Everyone!

I'm just going to get started. We (the AIM class and some of the AIM staff) went to Mountain View Camp this past week. It is a beautiful camp in the mountains in New Mexico. We had such a wonderful time!

Tuesday morning, September 6, we loaded up the "Ebenezer" the bus...you will hear more about her later, and a 15 passenger van and headed out on our 5 or 6 hour drive. We left Lubbock! We didn't take phones or computers or any electronics with us! It was such a nice retreat from everything that is so distracting!

Well, our bus ride was super fun! We did all kinds of things. We took LOTS of pictures and were big goofballs like we always are. We stopped in Roswell, New Mexico (where the aliens are) and ate lunch. I got to know some of my classmates SOOO much better! It was so fun!

We finally arrived at Mountain View and unloaded and did all off that beginning stuff. During the time that we were there, from Tuesday to Friday, we did so many things! It was so eventful. There was a lot of volleyball and throwing a football and basketball and a game of soccer and ultimate frisbee. There was A LOT of singing and playing instruments. There was an afternoon that they took us to Ruidoso, New Mexico to shop and look around! That was so fun! There was an afternoon where they took us up into the mountains to hike around. That was also super fun! We had LOTS of yummy food! Our AC/DC got to help cook breakfast one morning which was very interesting and funny! There might have been an accident with the eggs or something like that but I don't really remember :)

Jeff Dunn came to teach us our classes all weekend. He was amazing! It was so encouraging! Some of the guy assistants gave us devotionals each day. We had singing around the campfire at night. It was just a spiritually uplifting weekend in so many ways!

I feel so honored to be a part of this AIM class. Each day I feel more and more like God has put me exactly where I am supposed to be right now. It's hard to even describe. I am so blessed to have made these friends that I have that will last forever! There are some amazing people in my class and on this staff who I love so much!

When we got back last night, I went with some of the ex-AIMers and some of the AIMers to Los Tacos. It's a restaurant. I got to have Lengua (tongue) tacos and they have real imported cokes from mexico! It was so yummy! Then we went to Sheridan's. It's a frozen custard place. I didn't have anything but it was so great to get to hang out with my friends.

I also texted my sister and a couple of my friends from home and really really really enjoyed that! I miss them all so much!

Well, I hope you all have a fantastic week! I love you all!

1 Month...

So...I have been in Lubbock for 4 weeks! It's so hard to believe! I have come a long way in these past 4 weeks. I started out wanting to quit and go "home" in my first week. Then I started making friends (some of the best ever) and got settled into classes and the routine, if you can call it that, of AIM. Now, after 4 weeks I am LOVING it here so much! I have wonderful roommates and amazing classmates! I have the best of the best teachers I could ask for! I have met some of the other men who will be teaching us in the coming terms and they seem like they will live up to the teachers we have now, quite well! I love my area church and the group I go with! We started small groups, which I will tell you more about in a minute. I just can't believe how blessed I am to be here. God has put me exactly where I need to be! Now, we are done with mid-terms and we have a break week!
So....small groups! We were assigned to our small groups this week! It is a group of about 5 AIMers of the same gender and 1 or 2 AIM assistants of the same gender. My assistant is Diana and the girls in my group are Kaylin, Karla, Kristyn, Clarice and Me! It is such a wonderful group! We all got in the car to meet Diana at the coffee shop and we realized that none of us have really gotten to hang out very much! We are so excited to be together and we had an awesome first meeting getting to know one another! We get to stay in this group the whole time we are in AIM from what I understand! I am so excited because pretty much all of our other groups change when we form teams for the mission field. I am excited to have a group of a few of us to just catch up with each other this week and keep each other accountable for things!
Well, thats's really about all for now! We have a long weekend this weekend and so we have Monday off and then on Tuesday the AIMers are leaving for Mountain View. It is a camp in New Mexico and we are just going for a retreat! We will be there from Tuesday until Friday! We are so excited to have this week! It is going to be so great to just get to hang out with each other outside of class and homework and such! It will also be wonderful to be in 70 degree weather in the day and 50 degree weather at night! WOO HOO!
Well, I hope you all have a blessed week!
Thank you for the support! I am so blessed! God has done some amazing things in me since I have been here and I am so amazed! He keeps me on my toes for sure!
Love you! Emily Rose

AC/DC!!

AC/DC stands for Area Church/Denver City!

About a week and a half ago we got put into our "area church groups." Area church groups are groups of 5-8 AIMers with a couple AIM assistants. Each group is assigned to an "area church." Area churches are churches that are 2 hours or less away I think.
My group: Assistants: Bryson and Elizabeth (they are married), Aimers: Me, Jesse, David, Xavier, Kirsti, Beta, Katherine and Heather.
We have an awesome group and we are going to be attending Denver City Church! They are soooooo awesome!
This weekend they had TCC. It's is a conference for teenagers. I forgot what the letters stand for though (sorry).
Well, this was the 49th year of TCC. There were 4 speakers who did an outstanding job! We sang a lot too! AWESOME!
Then, this morning we went to church at DC! We got to meet a lot of people! The people at DC are amazing! They are so sweet and the feed us A LOT! They treat us like family! They are all one big family and it reminds me of my family at Highway! I thought about Highway A LOT today! Made me miss all of you all so much!
Anyways,  this is probably pretty scattered. I am soooooo tired right now!
Sorry I don't really have a lot to say right now. I don't want to end up writing a bunch of non-sense. I will try to write again sometime this week. We ALREADY have mid-terms! It's crazy how quick it's been! This week is mid-terms and then we have labor day weekend and we are out of school that Monday. Then Tuesday-Thursday we are going on our class retreat! We are so excited! One of the speakers from TCC will be there with us!
So, I am sure I will have a lot to write about with that!
I have had such an amazing week this past week! I have gotten closer to a lot of people in my class and I am loving them so much more each day! A group of our guys all play instruments so that has been pretty much a nightly event, them all playing together! They are so awesome! I'm just trying to keep up with all of my homework and have so much fun at the same time! It's hard, but great!
Well, I got to skype my parents and my lil sister tonight! It's the first time we have really talked since I have been here! It was SOOO good to see their faces and hear their voices! I miss them! I am so so so glad I have their support and love! If not, I wouldn't be able to be here right now! I love you guys!
I am going to stop now, because I feel like I am rambling! I promise it will be better next time!
Have a wonderful week!
God Bless you all!

It's A God Thing!

Well, hello everyone!

God is so Good! This past weekend we took a trip to Clovis, New Mexico. We left Saturday afternoon and stopped in Amherst, Texas (one of the area churches) and we had an ice-cream social with them. They were so amazing! They love AIM so much! It's crazy! They had such great stories of past AIMers and the things that they got to do with the church. It was so great to be there!
Then we left for Clovis. We got to the church and practiced our first ever flag presentation! Then we had lasagna  for dinner. This church also LOVES AIM so much! I am amazed each time we meet people who love us and they don't even know us. Well, later that night we met in the auditorium to meet our host families for the night. So  one other girl and I were with the Southard family. We were driving home and they asked us what we had been doing up until AIM. So I started out telling them that right after high school I interned at Mision Para Cristo in Nicaragua. Then they both said "with Benny Baker?!?!?" so I said "YES!" Then they proceeded to tell me that Mary (the mother) and their daughter went there this summer! It was so great! So we started talking about the people and the places and, of course, I started crying! So goofy! So we talked some more and then when we got to the house she showed me her pictures and told me that her daughter had a video! So at church Sunday morning Jill (the daughter) showed me here video! It was so good!
I told you all I was a little homesick at the beginning of my time in Lubbock. Well, I feel just as homesick for Nicaragua when I am not there. It was so good to see pictures and hear stories of  the place and the people that I love so much! How amazing is it that God somehow made it to where I was put with this family! It was a "God Thing." I have been hearing that phrase a lot lately and it seems like the perfect way to describe this.
God NEVER ceases to amaze me with just the smallest, yet biggest, things! It was such a great boost....to remember why I am here!
I am excited about the next 8 months, now more than ever! I am in the Denver City area church group! We are going to have a lot of fun!
Well, I hope you all have a blessed week!

First Impressions!

Hello Everyone!

So, it is the end of my first week here in Lubbock at AIM. It has been pretty crazy! I started out with some mixed emotions. I was a little homesick but so excited to be following a dream. Now I am less homesick and still  kind of excited. I am getting more settled into a routine.
Bea got here yesterday! Praise God!  She got here sometime in the morning and on of the AIM moms went and picked her up from the airport. She came to class for a few minutes to meet everyone but she was pretty tired so  we took her back to our apartment at lunch. We have got to spend some time with her and she is wonderful! She is from Brazil and speaks only some english. We have had a great time mixing Spanish, Portuguese and English! It's been interesting!
Well, here are some of my first impressions. I was a little overwhelmed because there were so many people here waiting for us to arrive. But I quickly came to love it! All of these people were waiting here to meet US! It has been wonderful getting to know everyone and hearing stories of ex-AIMers! We had our first brown bag on Wednesday, which is where AIMers on the field send us letters and Kris and Pat read them to us during lunch. The first one was incredible! I am looking forward to the next one!
We have AIM assistants. They are past AIMers who come back and volunteer their time to help us and take us to area churches on the weekends and do basically anything we need. They have been such a blessing. They really are amazing people!
I love my roommates! Andrea and Bea are just wonderful! We get along great so far even though we are all from different countries and speak 3 different languages! I have also been getting to know the other AIMers of my class! They are all wonderful! We fit together like a little family! I can't imagine how it's going to be in a few months! We will be even closer!
I love all of my classes and teachers! They are going to be intense and difficult at times but it will be so great! Our teachers are so passionate about the things they are teaching us and it is so amazing!
Well, that's about all for now! I have the weekend off pretty much. So I will be working on homework!
Thank you all for your support! I love you all so much!
Have a blessed weekend! God does amazing things if you take the time to let Him have control!
Love, Emily!

A New Adventure!

Hello Everyone!

Well, I have begun my AIM! I arrived in Lubbock, TX late Friday night with my parents and my sister! They brought me to help me get settled. Saturday they helped me register for AIM (Adventures In Missions) and move into my apartment!
My roommates are Andrea, from Mexico, and Beatriz, from Brazil. Beatriz doesn't arrive until tomorrow, but I am sure she is great! Andrea and I have gotten along great! I am learning more and more spanish with Andrea and Sophia, the other girl here from Mexico! I am having a blast with them!
We went to church at Sunset Church of Christ on Sunday and they recognized our whole AIM class as well as the students starting The Sunset International Bible School (SIBI.) It was great! They love us all so much already and the don't even know us!
Sunday afternoon for lunch I went to a families home for lunch with Andrea. Her brother had lived with them at one point. They are so AWESOME! They fed us a home cooked meal and we played games and had so much fun with some other ex-AIMers.
Monday and Tuesday (today) we have had orientation classes. It has been good. We have gone over all of the rules and all of the things that will be happening throughout our 8 months here in Lubbock. It sounds like it is going to be great!
I want to thank you all for all of your support and encouragement and prayers! It means so much to me. I have been a little homesick lately but I am ready to get into the swing of things here!
I will try to keep this updated! All of the posts won't be like this, I just wanted to let you all know what is going on.
Have a blessed day!
