AC/DC!!

AC/DC stands for Area Church/Denver City!

About a week and a half ago we got put into our "area church groups." Area church groups are groups of 5-8 AIMers with a couple AIM assistants. Each group is assigned to an "area church." Area churches are churches that are 2 hours or less away I think.
My group: Assistants: Bryson and Elizabeth (they are married), Aimers: Me, Jesse, David, Xavier, Kirsti, Beta, Katherine and Heather.
We have an awesome group and we are going to be attending Denver City Church! They are soooooo awesome!
This weekend they had TCC. It's is a conference for teenagers. I forgot what the letters stand for though (sorry).
Well, this was the 49th year of TCC. There were 4 speakers who did an outstanding job! We sang a lot too! AWESOME!
Then, this morning we went to church at DC! We got to meet a lot of people! The people at DC are amazing! They are so sweet and the feed us A LOT! They treat us like family! They are all one big family and it reminds me of my family at Highway! I thought about Highway A LOT today! Made me miss all of you all so much!
Anyways,  this is probably pretty scattered. I am soooooo tired right now!
Sorry I don't really have a lot to say right now. I don't want to end up writing a bunch of non-sense. I will try to write again sometime this week. We ALREADY have mid-terms! It's crazy how quick it's been! This week is mid-terms and then we have labor day weekend and we are out of school that Monday. Then Tuesday-Thursday we are going on our class retreat! We are so excited! One of the speakers from TCC will be there with us!
So, I am sure I will have a lot to write about with that!
I have had such an amazing week this past week! I have gotten closer to a lot of people in my class and I am loving them so much more each day! A group of our guys all play instruments so that has been pretty much a nightly event, them all playing together! They are so awesome! I'm just trying to keep up with all of my homework and have so much fun at the same time! It's hard, but great!
Well, I got to skype my parents and my lil sister tonight! It's the first time we have really talked since I have been here! It was SOOO good to see their faces and hear their voices! I miss them! I am so so so glad I have their support and love! If not, I wouldn't be able to be here right now! I love you guys!
I am going to stop now, because I feel like I am rambling! I promise it will be better next time!
Have a wonderful week!
God Bless you all!

It's A God Thing!

Well, hello everyone!

God is so Good! This past weekend we took a trip to Clovis, New Mexico. We left Saturday afternoon and stopped in Amherst, Texas (one of the area churches) and we had an ice-cream social with them. They were so amazing! They love AIM so much! It's crazy! They had such great stories of past AIMers and the things that they got to do with the church. It was so great to be there!
Then we left for Clovis. We got to the church and practiced our first ever flag presentation! Then we had lasagna  for dinner. This church also LOVES AIM so much! I am amazed each time we meet people who love us and they don't even know us. Well, later that night we met in the auditorium to meet our host families for the night. So  one other girl and I were with the Southard family. We were driving home and they asked us what we had been doing up until AIM. So I started out telling them that right after high school I interned at Mision Para Cristo in Nicaragua. Then they both said "with Benny Baker?!?!?" so I said "YES!" Then they proceeded to tell me that Mary (the mother) and their daughter went there this summer! It was so great! So we started talking about the people and the places and, of course, I started crying! So goofy! So we talked some more and then when we got to the house she showed me her pictures and told me that her daughter had a video! So at church Sunday morning Jill (the daughter) showed me here video! It was so good!
I told you all I was a little homesick at the beginning of my time in Lubbock. Well, I feel just as homesick for Nicaragua when I am not there. It was so good to see pictures and hear stories of  the place and the people that I love so much! How amazing is it that God somehow made it to where I was put with this family! It was a "God Thing." I have been hearing that phrase a lot lately and it seems like the perfect way to describe this.
God NEVER ceases to amaze me with just the smallest, yet biggest, things! It was such a great boost....to remember why I am here!
I am excited about the next 8 months, now more than ever! I am in the Denver City area church group! We are going to have a lot of fun!
Well, I hope you all have a blessed week!

First Impressions!

Hello Everyone!

So, it is the end of my first week here in Lubbock at AIM. It has been pretty crazy! I started out with some mixed emotions. I was a little homesick but so excited to be following a dream. Now I am less homesick and still  kind of excited. I am getting more settled into a routine.
Bea got here yesterday! Praise God!  She got here sometime in the morning and on of the AIM moms went and picked her up from the airport. She came to class for a few minutes to meet everyone but she was pretty tired so  we took her back to our apartment at lunch. We have got to spend some time with her and she is wonderful! She is from Brazil and speaks only some english. We have had a great time mixing Spanish, Portuguese and English! It's been interesting!
Well, here are some of my first impressions. I was a little overwhelmed because there were so many people here waiting for us to arrive. But I quickly came to love it! All of these people were waiting here to meet US! It has been wonderful getting to know everyone and hearing stories of ex-AIMers! We had our first brown bag on Wednesday, which is where AIMers on the field send us letters and Kris and Pat read them to us during lunch. The first one was incredible! I am looking forward to the next one!
We have AIM assistants. They are past AIMers who come back and volunteer their time to help us and take us to area churches on the weekends and do basically anything we need. They have been such a blessing. They really are amazing people!
I love my roommates! Andrea and Bea are just wonderful! We get along great so far even though we are all from different countries and speak 3 different languages! I have also been getting to know the other AIMers of my class! They are all wonderful! We fit together like a little family! I can't imagine how it's going to be in a few months! We will be even closer!
I love all of my classes and teachers! They are going to be intense and difficult at times but it will be so great! Our teachers are so passionate about the things they are teaching us and it is so amazing!
Well, that's about all for now! I have the weekend off pretty much. So I will be working on homework!
Thank you all for your support! I love you all so much!
Have a blessed weekend! God does amazing things if you take the time to let Him have control!
Love, Emily!

A New Adventure!

Hello Everyone!

Well, I have begun my AIM! I arrived in Lubbock, TX late Friday night with my parents and my sister! They brought me to help me get settled. Saturday they helped me register for AIM (Adventures In Missions) and move into my apartment!
My roommates are Andrea, from Mexico, and Beatriz, from Brazil. Beatriz doesn't arrive until tomorrow, but I am sure she is great! Andrea and I have gotten along great! I am learning more and more spanish with Andrea and Sophia, the other girl here from Mexico! I am having a blast with them!
We went to church at Sunset Church of Christ on Sunday and they recognized our whole AIM class as well as the students starting The Sunset International Bible School (SIBI.) It was great! They love us all so much already and the don't even know us!
Sunday afternoon for lunch I went to a families home for lunch with Andrea. Her brother had lived with them at one point. They are so AWESOME! They fed us a home cooked meal and we played games and had so much fun with some other ex-AIMers.
Monday and Tuesday (today) we have had orientation classes. It has been good. We have gone over all of the rules and all of the things that will be happening throughout our 8 months here in Lubbock. It sounds like it is going to be great!
I want to thank you all for all of your support and encouragement and prayers! It means so much to me. I have been a little homesick lately but I am ready to get into the swing of things here!
I will try to keep this updated! All of the posts won't be like this, I just wanted to let you all know what is going on.
Have a blessed day!
